Who Qualifies for VA Aid and Attendance

All four need to be met. A-Team helps you document each one.

Wartime service

At least 90 days of active duty with one or more days during a recognized wartime period, discharged under conditions other than dishonorable.

A daily care need

You need help from another person with everyday activities such as bathing, dressing, or eating, or you are largely housebound.

Age or disability

You are 65 or older, or you are permanently and totally disabled regardless of age.

Income and net worth

Your countable net worth is under $163,699 (2026 limit, va.gov). Unreimbursed care costs are deducted from your income in the calculation.

How much does VA Aid and Attendance pay in 2026?
In 2026 the maximum monthly amounts are $1,558 for a surviving spouse, $2,424 for a single veteran, $2,874 for a veteran with a spouse, and $3,845 for two married veterans (va.gov, effective December 1, 2025).
Can a surviving spouse qualify?
Yes. The surviving spouse of a wartime veteran may qualify for the Survivors Pension with Aid and Attendance, worth up to $1,558 per month in 2026 (va.gov).
Can I use Aid and Attendance and Medicaid home care together?
They are separate programs, VA Aid and Attendance is federal and Community HealthChoices is Pennsylvania Medicaid. A-Team reviews both and helps you use whatever you are eligible for.
How long does VA approval take?
