You're exhausted — and your loved one deserves better than an exhausted caregiver.

You've been doing this for months. Maybe years. The morning routine, the medications, the middle-of-the-night bathroom trips, the holidays alone because you can't leave. You tell yourself it's fine. It's not fine. Caregiver stress is a documented health risk — and the best thing you can do for the person you're caring for is make sure you don't collapse.

A-Team respite care covers so you can rest. A few hours this week. An overnight this weekend. A full week while you take your first trip in two years. We come to your loved one's home — the place they know — so you can leave without guilt.

Pennsylvania Family Caregiver Program

The Primary Caregiver Is You. You Could Also Be Paid.

Adult family members (not spouses, not POA holders) who are already providing the personal care — bathing, dressing, mobility — for a loved one on Pennsylvania Medicaid may qualify to be paid as Direct Care Workers through A-Team's Family Caregiver Program. Other family members can also be paid for their relief shifts.

8 Respite Options

What A-Team Respite Care Includes

A few hours or a full vacation — flexible respite coverage scheduled around the primary caregiver's real life, not a rigid care template.

Hourly Relief

A few hours per week — enough for a doctor appointment, a workout, or a nap without your phone in your hand. Recurring weekly blocks available.

Overnight Coverage

Caregiver takes the overnight shift so the primary caregiver sleeps through the night. Particularly critical for families managing dementia with nighttime wandering.

Full-Day Respite

A full 8-to-12-hour shift so the caregiver has a real day — not a two-hour window. Used for medical appointments, work commitments, or personal recovery.

Weekend Respite

Saturday and/or Sunday coverage — because families who are doing this 365 days a year deserve a weekend.

Vacation Coverage

Multi-day or multi-week coverage so the primary caregiver can travel. Requires advance notice; A-Team arranges 24-hour coverage or live-in placement for the duration.

Caregiver Recovery

When the primary caregiver has a health event — surgery, illness, hospitalization — A-Team provides emergency coverage so the care recipient doesn't go unattended.

Emergency Respite

Unplanned crisis coverage when the family caregiver cannot be present — placed as quickly as 24 to 48 hours from the initial call.

Recurring Weekly Hours

A set number of caregiver hours each week — predictable, scheduled, and consistent so the primary caregiver can plan their life around them.

Who Respite Care Is For

4 Caregivers Who Most Often Call A-Team for Respite

Caregiver burnout doesn't happen overnight. These are the patterns we see most often when families finally call.

Burned-out spouse caregiver

You've been your spouse's caregiver for two years. You sleep in the recliner because you can't sleep through the night anymore. Your own doctor keeps saying you need to rest. Caregiver stress in spouses is clinically documented — it raises mortality risk in the caregiver. A-Team overnight respite is not a luxury. It's a medical necessity for you too.

Working full-time while caregiving

You leave your parent in the morning with anxiety in your chest, and you come home to a second shift. You haven't had a weekend in months. Recurring weekly respite hours let you do your job without the fear — and come home to a family member instead of a caregiver role.

Family travel or emergency

Your son's graduation. Your sister's wedding out of state. Your own surgery that can't be postponed. When the primary caregiver needs to be somewhere else, A-Team covers — 24-hour or live-in for the duration. Your loved one stays home. You go where you need to go.

Holiday relief

The holidays are when family caregiver burnout peaks. When everyone else is at the table and you're managing a behavioral episode, something breaks. A-Team holiday respite coverage — even one shift per day over a holiday week — gives you the table back.

How It Works

How A-Team Respite Care Works

From your first call to a caregiver in the home — typically 24 to 48 hours.

Free Consultation

Call (215) 490-9994. We'll listen to your schedule, discuss what hours you need covered, and review coverage options — PA Medicaid CHC, VetAssist, private pay, long-term care insurance.

In-Home RN Assessment

A registered nurse comes to the home, meets your loved one, and writes a care plan specific to the respite hours. The plan includes your loved one's preferences, routines, and any behavioral or medical notes.

Caregiver Match

A-Team matches a caregiver by location, language preference, and care needs — consistency is important for respite care. The same caregiver(s) for recurring weekly shifts whenever possible.

Relief Begins

First shift within 24 to 48 hours. Recurring weekly hours scheduled to your calendar. Vacation or extended coverage arranged with advance notice. Your schedule drives the plan.

Respite Care FAQ

The most common questions Greater Philadelphia and Bucks County family caregivers ask before arranging respite.

What is respite care?
Respite care is temporary, short-term relief care provided to a family caregiver — giving them a planned break while a trained professional cares for their loved one. Respite can be as short as a few hours per week or as long as multi-week vacation coverage. The goal is to prevent family caregiver burnout, which is one of the leading reasons a person with care needs gets placed in a facility.
Does Pennsylvania Medicaid cover respite care?
Pennsylvania Community HealthChoices (CHC) Medicaid covers personal care hours that provide relief to family caregivers. Authorized hours can be scheduled around the primary caregiver's needs — including evenings, weekends, and blocks of consecutive days. A-Team works with CHC managed care organizations to maximize authorized respite hours for eligible clients.
Can a family member get paid for respite coverage?
Yes — A-Team's Family Caregiver Program allows adult family members (not spouses, not POA holders) to be paid as Direct Care Workers for personal care tasks through Pennsylvania Community HealthChoices. This can include shifts where the primary caregiver is resting or working. State-provided DCW training required. Family Caregiver Program →
How quickly can respite care start?
A-Team typically matches a qualified caregiver within 24 to 48 hours of the initial call. For emergency respite — where the primary caregiver has had a health event — A-Team expedites placement. Process: free consultation, in-home RN assessment, caregiver match, care begins.
What's the difference between respite care and regular home care?
Respite care is specifically designed around the family caregiver's schedule — relief so the caregiver can rest, work, travel, or recover. Regular home care is ongoing, often daily care for the care recipient. Many families transition from respite care to a more regular schedule as care needs grow. A-Team provides both — and the care team can remain the same throughout.
Can A-Team provide respite during a family vacation?
Yes. A-Team can arrange full-time coverage — 24-hour live-in or shift coverage — for the duration of a family vacation. This requires advance notice (typically 2-4 weeks for longer blocks) and is available through private pay or long-term care insurance. Some CHC managed care plans also authorize extended respite blocks.
Where does A-Team provide respite care?
A-Team provides respite care across all five counties: Philadelphia, Bucks, Montgomery, Delaware, and Chester. Two offices: Philadelphia (2751 N. 5th Street) and Feasterville-Trevose (2 Park Lane, Suite 106).
