Respite Care for Family Caregivers

You are exhausted, and your loved one deserves better than an exhausted caregiver. A-Team respite care gives family caregivers a planned break, hourly, overnight, weekend, or weeks at a time, while a trained, RN-supervised caregiver steps in.

The Primary Caregiver Is You. You Could Also Be Paid.

If you are an adult family member already providing the daily care, you may qualify to be paid as the caregiver through A-Team’s Family Caregiver Program, including shifts where you are resting or working.

TYPES OF RELIEF

What A-Team Respite Care Includes

Flexible relief built around the primary caregiver’s life, from a few hours to multi-week coverage, all RN-supervised.

Hourly Relief
A few hours a week, enough for a doctor's appointment, a workout, or a nap without your phone in your hand.
Overnight Coverage
A caregiver takes the overnight shift so the primary caregiver sleeps through the night.
Full-Day Respite
A full 8-to-12-hour shift so the caregiver gets a real day, not a two-hour window.
Weekend Respite
Saturday and Sunday coverage, because families doing this 365 days a year deserve a weekend.
Vacation Coverage
Multi-day or multi-week coverage so the primary caregiver can travel, arranged with advance notice.
Caregiver Recovery
When the primary caregiver has a surgery, illness, or hospitalization, A-Team covers the gap.
Emergency Respite
Unplanned crisis coverage, placed as quickly as 24 to 48 hours from the first call.
Recurring Weekly Hours
A set number of caregiver hours each week, predictable and scheduled so you can plan your life.

WHO RESPITE CARE IS FOR

4 Caregivers Who Most Often Call A-Team for Respite

Most A-Team respite clients are family caregivers in one of these four situations.

Burned-out spouse caregiver

You have been your spouse’s caregiver for two years and sleep in the recliner because you can’t sleep through the night anymore. You need real rest.

Working full-time while caregiving

You leave your parent in the morning with anxiety in your chest and come home to a second shift. Respite covers the hours you can’t.

Family travel or emergency

A graduation, an out-of-state wedding, or your own surgery that can’t be postponed. A-Team covers the days you have to be away.

Holiday relief

Caregiver burnout peaks at the holidays. When everyone else is at the table, A-Team makes sure you can be too.

Respite Care FAQ

The most common questions Greater Philadelphia and Bucks County family caregivers ask before arranging respite.

What is respite care?
Respite care is temporary, short-term relief care for a family caregiver, a planned break while a trained professional cares for their loved one. It can be a few hours a week or multi-week vacation coverage, and it is one of the leading ways to prevent caregiver burnout.
Does Pennsylvania Medicaid cover respite care?
Pennsylvania Community HealthChoices (CHC) Medicaid covers personal-care hours that relieve family caregivers, scheduled around the primary caregiver’s needs, including evenings, weekends, and consecutive days. A-Team works with CHC plans to maximize authorized hours.
Can a family member get paid for respite coverage?
Yes. A-Team’s Family Caregiver Program allows adult family members (not spouses, not POA holders) to be paid as Direct Care Workers for personal-care tasks through CHC, including shifts where the primary caregiver is resting or working. State DCW training is required.
How quickly can respite care start?
A-Team typically matches a qualified caregiver within 24 to 48 hours of the first call. For emergency respite, where the primary caregiver has had a health event, A-Team expedites placement.
What is the difference between respite and regular home care?
Respite care is built around the family caregiver’s schedule and need for a break, rather than only the client’s daily routine. The same trained, RN-supervised caregivers provide it.
Is overnight and weekend respite available?
Yes. A-Team provides overnight, weekend, full-day, and multi-week coverage, scheduled around the primary caregiver’s life.
